Sunsilk/Coles Fashion Event

I recently took part in a competition run through my university the University of Technology Sydney, to design a promotional dress for the hair care lable Sunsilk.  the competition and event was sponsored by Sunsilk and Coles.  Eveybody in the final year (4th year) of Fashion and Textiels design submitted designs, and 12 finalists were chosen.  Each Finalist was given $600 to produce their promotional dress and develop a design which best protrays the Sunsilk image.  All of the finalists took part in a fashion show held at the new Dank Street Coles Waterloo.  The event was very profesional and impressive.  the event was organised by James Hale from Hill and Knowlton PR firm.  The competition was judged by the famous Paula Joye, who was previously the editor of Madison fashion magazine but is now editor of  LifeStyled a very successful online magainze.  There were international models and an amazing slyling hair and makeup team that created a truley amazing show for everyone.  The event was quite unique in that it was student work, and that it was held amoungst the shoppers, throughout the Coles.  Everyones work was amazing, and i would like to say congradulations to all the finalists for all of our hard work.

I was fortunate enough to win the competition, which was very unexpected.  I won $3000 and a Sunsilk Trophey.  It was a truley amazing experience, and I am very thankful to have been able to have taken part in such a competition.

My design was based on the damaged hair reconstruction hair care product which is a bright orange bottle, which influenced the colour choice of my dress.  I then beaded on the Sunsilk Symbol in crystals to capture the shine of healthy hair that Sunsilk is known for.  i then created a feature of the seams and construction lines of teh dress by having all the seams raw on the outside which created a very interesting effect.  the main long dress was made out of silk organza which I hand dyed to get the exact colours i wanted, and also to create a dip dye effect to fade the colours from orange to grey to fuschia along the hem.  the under dress/ slip was silk jersey which was also hand dyed the same grey as used in the dress to complement to blod colour orange used.

here are some photos of the event.

Design by Danielle Kremer. Absolutley amazing digital print and beaded embroidery.
